What are Body Focused Repetitive Behaviours?
Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) are a group of self-grooming behaviors that lead to recurrent damage or injury to one's body. These actions are often repeated, involuntary, and can become habitual, causing distress and impairment in daily life. Common BFRBs include hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (excoriation disorder), and nail biting (onychophagia).

Many people engage in body focused repetitive behaviours. It is only when these behaviours begin to cause distress and you find that you can't stop them, even if you want to, that you may seek professional help.
How can BFRBs be treated?
BFRBs are often multifaceted in nature and so it can be helpful to incorporate numerous treatment tools.Treatment can involve techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Habit Reversal Training (HRT), EMDR, wingwave coaching or the Comprehensive Behavioural (ComB) model for treatment. For best results, a personalised treatment pathway is created. Additionally, medication, supplements, support groups and lifestyle modifications can complement therapeutic interventions.
How can Janina help?
I am VPTI certified (Virtual Professional Training Institute) having completed the Virtual Training in the Treatment of BFRBs for clinicians. Integrating this training alongside the Comprehensive Behavioral (ComB) model, wingwave coaching, EMDR and Habit Reversal Training (HRT) can create an even more comprehensive approach for addressing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs).
After exploring your current experiences, we are able to create your personal profile for the behaviour, considering both internal and external factors, from which we then agree a treatment plan.
